Record-setting wet and cold weather is slowing down the beginning of the spring construction season. While farmers battle soggy fields and are behind on their planting, one large contractor reports that foundation pouring for footings and basements are six to ten weeks behind.
The saturated soils make it nearly impossible for heavy equipment to operate. Orders for pouring concrete are stacking up. Even at sites with the foundations in place,it is difficult accessing work sites to deliver construction materials.
