WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) _ A 39-year-old Williston woman is charged with neglecting her child after police say she left her cognitively impaired 10-year-old boy to guard a camper from intruders while she went to take a shower.
Williams County District Judge Joshua Rustad last week found enough probable cause to send Carrie Tyler to trial on the charge of child neglect or abuse. The charge stems from a Feb. 25 incident in which Tyler's landlord called police and reported that the boy had been abandoned.
A police officer talked to the boy, whose clothes were soiled. The Williston Herald reports that the boy told investigators that he needed to guard the camper so that ``drunks and druggies'' wouldn't break in.
